I had the great fortune to review Stuffed Cupcakes this week. Now some might think “she got cupcakes, big deal”. Well let me tell you, Stuffed Cupcakes aren’t just any cupcake. Stuffed Cupcakes are, simply put, the best cupcakes I have ever had. Did you ever have a food so good that as you’re eating it, and it’s still in your mouth, you can’t help but moan “Oh God, this is sooooooooooo good!” These cupcakes are one of those foods.

So you’re wondering what a Stuffed Cupcake is and what the big deal is. Allow me to explain. A Stuffed Cupcake is a big cupcake baked fresh and then stuffed and topped to perfection at The Petite Café in Nutley, New Jersey. The Petite Café makes and sells baked goods and is owned by Keith and Maureen Jaret.

Keith, a chef trained at the Culinary Institute of America, and Maureen, a woman with business and finance experience gained on Wall Street, formed a catering company in 1987. In 2001 they launched a café called The Petite Café. In 2005 Maureen adapted her popular chocolate cake recipe to become the first stuffed cupcakes, as a way of thanking café customers. In 2008 they decided to focus solely on the growing baked goods portion of the business which was fueled partly by the growing popularity of the stuffed cupcakes. The Petite Café reopened in a small intimate space and offers beverages and baked goods.

We received four Stuffed Cupcakes for this review – Red Velvet, Lemon Bar, Vanilla Classic and Outrageous Oreo. The cupcakes were delivered in perfect condition and looked very appealing.

These cupcakes are far from tiny, they’re pretty large and rather heavy. The cake on all of them was extremely moist. I liked the amount of filling inside each one, enough to taste it throughout but not so much that it overwhelmed.

RB absolutely LOVED the Red Velvet cupcake, which is a Red Velvet cupcake filled with vanilla mousse And topped with cream cheese icing. I’m not exactly sure what Red Velvet is but it was very yummy and it really is red.

The Vanilla Classic was far better than any vanilla cupcake I’ve ever had. It’s a vanilla cupcake filled With vanilla mousse and topped With vanilla icing and a dollop of chocolate.

Stuffed Cupcakes PackageMy favorite was the Outrageous Oreo, a chocolate cupcake filled with crusted Oreo custard And topped with vanilla icing and mini Oreos. CJ loved the Lemon Bar, which is a lemon cupcake filled with lemon custard and topped with lemon icing. It wasn’t super tart like I was afraid it would be. Unfortuantely I wasn’t able to get any decent photos of these two.

Along with the flavor I was also very pleased with the texture. I tend to dislike your average icing (we call it buttercream) because it’s sickly sweet and usually way too grainy. The icing on each of the Stuffed Cupcakes was smooth.

I’d love to try some of the other flavors, like the Blackout (a dark chocolate cupcake stuffed with dark chocolate icing topped with dark chocolate icing with dark chocolate cake crumbs), the Strawberry Alarm Clock (a vanilla cupcake with strawberry custard topped with strawberry whipped cream), the Strawberry Fields (a strawberry cupcake with strawberry custard topped with strawberry whipped cream) and the Chocolate Decadence (a chocolate chocolate chip cupcake filled with chocolate mousse and topped with chocolate cChip icing).

I couldn’t have been more pleased with the Stuffed Cupcakes and recommend them highly, not only for special occasions but also as a special treat for yourself.

Stuffed Cupcake in HandThere are 102 varieties of Stuffed Cupcakes. All of the cupcake flavors can also be made into full size cakes serving anywhere from 2 to 80 people as well. The Petite Café has a Cupcakes of the Month club where a person receives a dozen cupcakes each month for a duration of 3, 6 or 12 months. Stuffed Cupcakes are available to purchase both online and in the cafe and can be shipped anywhere in the US.

Thanks to The Petite Cafe for indulging me and my tastebuds with your heavenly Stuffed Cupcakes!
